We did it again!!! 4th Magnet Designation; joining the top 2% of hospitals with 4 consecutive Magnet designations!

Message from Dale Chief Nurse Executive & Vice President of Patient Care Services February 19, 2021
Dear Colleagues,   It is my great privilege to announce that as of today, February 19th, 2021, SHC has achieved its 4th Magnet Designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)!! As a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association (ANA), the ANCC is the world’s largest and most prestigious nurse credentialing organization, working to elevate the profession of nursing and transform healthcare. I would like to offer my resounding congratulations to each and every member of our Stanford community on this prestigious designation that is the highest national recognition bestowed on an organization for nursing.   Despite these extraordinary times, SHC is honored to receive this designation that highlights our commitment to innovative, compassionate, and collaborative care over the past four years and beyond. Thank you all for your hard work and tremendous contributions during the past four years; the Magnet appraisers were very impressed during our virtual site visit at SHC’s resilience and dedication to serve our patients and our community. During the congratulatory call with the ANCC Magnet appraisers, seven exemplars were highlighted. Several highlights included SHC’s integration of Jean Watson’s Caring Science as we care for our patients and each other. They were also impressed with our collective and robust interprofessional response to COVID-19. The Magnet appraisers noted a vibrant Shared Leadership for both inpatient and ambulatory care- sparking innovations from the bedside that allow a transformative culture to flourish. Finally, the appraisers were impressed by our expert patient care.
Magnet designation is considered the “gold standard” for excellence in nursing. Less than 2% of U.S. hospitals receive Magnet designation four consecutive times and now SHC is a part of this 2%! Our Magnet designation demonstrates the collective commitment of our dynamic nursing and interprofessional workforce to providing outstanding patient care while continually advancing healthcare outcomes.   Current research demonstrates that Magnet hospitals have improved patient outcomes, higher patient satisfaction, and better rates for nursing retention than non-Magnet designated facilities. Therefore, let us celebrate this historic achievement that reflects each team member’s incredible contributions to advance patient care and uplift the profession of nursing. SHC has previously received Magnet designations in 2007, 2012, and 2016. Each time we go through the rigorous Magnet re-designation process the bar is raised and collectively we aspire to achieve greater and greater heights. Once again- thank you all for your unwavering commitment to excellence in nursing and congratulations; we have much to be proud of!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am so proud of Stanford Health Care, all our nurses and healthcare partners!
With respect and admiration,
Dale Beatty, DNP, RN, NEA-BC Chief Nurse Executive and VP of Patient Care Services
