Congratulations to SHC’s Emerging Nurse Leaders, Annual Report, Sigma’s Stanford Chapter-at-Large

Message from Dale
Chief Nursing Officer & Vice President of Patient Care Service

August 20, 2020
Dear colleagues,   Now that we are halfway through August, we find ourselves already past the halfway point of 2020, which has ushered in worldwide unprecedented changes. While navigating this uncharted territory, I have witnessed ongoing resilience, innovations in patient care, and creativity across the organization.
During this period of transition, I’m reflecting on the multitude of changes we have recently experienced; I am inspired by the tremendous contributions of you all. Some of these contributions are highlighted in the 2019 Nursing Annual Report, which was launched during Nurses Week in May 2020. For those of you who haven’t yet had a chance to review the interactive website, I encourage you to browse through the featured achievements of your fellow nurses and interprofessional colleagues;
At the beginning of the year, in February 2019, SHC had 60 nurses participate in the Emerging Nurse Leader, Nursing Leadership Academy Pilot, a program initiated by the Johnson & Johnson Foundation, Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, in collaboration with LinkedIn Learning. This pilot was an opportunity for SHC to be at the forefront of raising the bar for ongoing professional education for nurses world-wide. These 60 emerging nurse leaders successfully completed the online program and we have just received the summary from this leading-edge endeavor. It is exciting to be a vital part of nursing professional leadership history as we expand our global influence.

Other historical moments are actively being created by SHC. We just announced that SHC, in partnership with LPCH, has received the honor of being the world’s first practice only chapter in the largest and highly esteemed nursing organization, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Sigma, a nearly 100-year old organization, has 135,000 members and actively works to elevate the profession of nursing. This significant and monumental achievement was featured in the Stanford Medicine’s News Center. Check out the article here and learn more about this exciting opportunity! Through our involvement in this prestigious organization, we hope to promote nursing excellence and empower our nurses to transform global healthcare.    For those who haven’t yet signed up for SHC’s Sigma chapter, read more.   Hopefully these examples of nursing excellence will inspire you as they have inspired me. Thank you for all you do — you all make a difference.
With respect and admiration,
Dale Beatty, DNP, RN, NEA-BC Chief Nursing Officer and VP of Patient Care Services
