Message from Dale, Chief Nursing Officer & Vice President of Patient Care Service, Stanford Health Care (April 23, 2020)

On April 22nd, we hosted our first virtual Nursing Grand Rounds“Mindful Resilience through Caring Connection,” which was successfully attended by over 220 nurses and interprofessionals while abiding by the current social distancing guidelines. Thank you to Ali Abolfazli, MS, MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC, our Psych liaison–NPDS who shared helpful practices to foster resilience and self-compassion. Special thank you goes to Yelena Korpacheva, BSN, RN, OCN, from B2 Oncology Acuity Adaptable Unit, who described how during this challenging time it is important to adopt a disposition of gratitude. In the spirit of caring connection, Yelena established a team in her department to create gifts for COVID-19 units to express her support and solidarity with her fellow SHC nurses. We also heard from Paras Barnett, BSN, RN, CMSRN, HHB-BC, ONS and Caritas Coach, who has been deeply connecting with nurses while dispersing her therapeutic essential oils which are infused with healing love. Also featured on the panel was Stephanie Radcliffe, BSN, RN-BC, OCN, who shared tips on how to cultivate the essential practice of daily self-compassion.

These highlighted nurses are just four examples among many of the exceptional nurses, caregivers, and interprofessionals who have stepped up and utilized their personal talents, ingenuity, and passion to express support for their colleagues and patients during this challenging time. Thank you all for your wonderful contributions, compassionate service, and flexibility. I am impressed with how this situation has brought to light each nurse’s individual strengths in an effort to spread positivity and generosity while earnestly supporting each other.
