Message from Dale – Week 25 of 2018

Dear Colleagues,
This week has been full of professional activities starting with Nursing Grand Rounds on Monday with the Perioperative Education Department.  This interprofessional group shared their leading-edge improvement work on teamwork and communication through the Interprofessional Communication Education Program for Teamwork (InterCEPT). InterCEPT was developed as a partnership between Perioperative Education, the department of anesthesia, the department of surgery’s Goodman Surgical Education Center (GSEC), and the Risk Authority.  Sarah Hirx, MSN, RN CNOR, Manager, Perioperative Education and Jean Watson Caritas Coach shared how they have intentionally built their simulation practices around a Caring Science Framework, seeking to create psychological safety through recognizing our humanity and unique perspectives and contributions.

Yesterday, Wednesday, we held our monthly Interprofessional Shared Leadership Council (SLC).  Our SLC structure invites and empowers nurses and interprofessionals from all levels (bedside to boardroom) and departments across the enterprise to collaborate, partner and contribute to decisions that improve our clinical practice and practice environments, aligning with the mission, vision, and values of SHC, as well as our Integrated Strategic Plan.

In addition, several Stanford nurses also attended the South Bay Chapter of the Association of California Nurse Leaders last night to see and support Brandon Bond, Administrative Director of the Office of Emergency Management here at Stanford Health Care.  Brandon spoke on disaster preparedness during catastrophic events. He encouraged and educated on personal preparedness, as well as addressed how nurses and interprofessionals have been and can continue to be major players in response teams.

Warm Regards
Dale
