Last week we had our second meeting of our Wisdom Workers. The goal for this group is to develop a process that will keep nurses engaged even after they retire from Stanford Health Care. As the Baby Boomers age, we will be the largest generation to retire in history. With these retirements, hundreds of years of nursing and leadership expertise will be lost to our organization and I cannot stand by and let that happen.
At this meeting we had over 632 years of experience between only 25 nurses – incredible. Being a nurse is more than a job, we are nurses and that does not stop when we decide to retire. We will be crafting a type of job category that will allow retirees the flexibility to fill non-direct patient care roles at SHC. We still have a lot of work to do to make this happen but with the support of our nurses I am confident we will do it.
